Quick & Simple Thai Iced Milk Tea Recipe [w/ video tutorial]

Quick & Simple Thai Iced Milk Tea Recipe [w/ video tutorial]

One of my favourite drinks when I'm holidaying in Bangkok would be Thai Milk Tea. If you've been to Thailand, you'll know how hot the weather can be! And amidst the sweltering heat and relentless shopping, an ice cold glass of creamy Thai tea always did the trick for me.

When we were conceptualising recipes for our new launches, we thought, "Hey why not we incorporate Thai tea into our desserts?". Thus, came the birth of our Thai tea white chocolate loaf cakes and Thai tea cheesecake brownies. We find that using the original Thai Tea leaves from Cha Tra Mue gave our bakes the best taste and fragrance, so all our baking kits use them, but other alternatives work too! The tea leaves can be found direct from their store or sites such as Redmart and Shopee.

And needless to say, the recipe testing sessions involved a lot of Thai tea drinking. Here's how we made it – check out the recipe below to make your very own cup of refreshing Thai Milk Tea.

Thai Iced Milk Tea Recipe

Recipe makes 1 cup

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon Thai Tea Leaves
  • 1 cup of of hot boiling water
  • 2 teaspoons sugar*
  • 2 teaspoons sweetened condensed milk *
  • 2 teaspoons evaporated milk*
  • 1 cup of ice, crushed

*reduce/increase according to taste preference. The hot tea should be made slightly sweeter as the addition of ice will dilute it.

Tools

  • French press/ tea sock/ coffee filter

Directions

  1. Boil some water.
  2. In the French press, add in one tablespoon of Thai black tea. Add in one cup of hot boiling water and cover with the lid. Allow it to steep for a couple of minutes, until the water changes into a deep orangey-brown colour.
  3. Press the lever down all the way to the bottom.
  4. Pour the hot tea into a big cup. Add in 2 teaspoons of sugar and stir to dissolve.
  5. Add in 2 teaspoons of condensed milk and stir to combine.
  6. In a tall glass, add in ice. Pour the tea into the glass until almost full, and finish with 2 teaspoons of evaporated milk.

Add a straw and voilà, you have yourself a delicious cup of Thai Iced Tea! Enjoy!
